Top 10 Classic Cars in the UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has rapidly emerged as one of the major markets for modern luxury cars, which is the reason why almost all the renowned automobile manufacturers have started to give a lot of importance to Dubai and other parts of the UAE. In the recent past, we have regularly seen different car makers picking Dubai and Abu Dhabi for unveiling some of their most expensive cars. However, with countless car lovers in the region, UAE is not just about modern vehicles; in fact, there is an ever-increasing demand for classic cars, and the popularity of 6th Emirates Classic Car Festival is a big enough proof to justify my statement. I dedicate this post to classic car lovers and have devised a list of top 10 classic cars in the UAE:

1 – Bentley Blue Train

This fascinating car received a great response during the recently concluded sixth Emirates Classic Car Festival due to its rich history. The Bentley Blue Train is popular all around the world for its famous races against trains, especially versus Le Train Bleu which used to run between Cannes and Calais, during the 1920s and 1930s. The purpose of such races was to raise awareness about cars as a mode of transportation. It is definitely one of the most popular classic cars in the region and I am sure you would love to possess one.    Apart from incredibly attractive exterior and interior, it is the very first car to possess a 6.5 litre engine.

2 – 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray

Totally ‘irresistible’ and my all-time favourite, the 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray owns a 427-cu engine, having the potential to generate 425 horsepower and 415 lbs-ft of torque, which was something unbelievable in the 1960s. Having a strong engine, amazing acceleration, extremely comfortable drive, heavenly appearance, classy interior, the 1966 Sting Ray is the best in its class. If you get lucky enough to witness this car on the roads of Dubai someday, I bet this will make your head turn to have another glance.

3 – 1930 Rolls Royce

A record breaking car of its era, the 1930 Rolls Royce mesmerized the car lovers with its speed and acceleration. The car had the potential to easily exceed 200 miles per hour. Having the traditional Rolls Royce elegance and class, the 1930 model caught viewer’s attention during Emirates Classic Cars Festival. Over the years, Rolls Royce has introduced several splendid cars, but this model retains immense historical significance.

4 – 1892 Two-Wheeler Mercedes

The 1892 Mercedes two-wheeler is the oldest car in the UAE and one of the oldest in the whole word, which is the reason why it was greatly appreciated by the attendees of Car Festival. We did see some experiments in the custom-made cars segment in the 19th century, but the 1892 Mercedes is regarded by many as the first car produced on large scale for sales. Being an ancestor of the modern Mercedes-Benz, the 1892 two-wheeler retains great historical significance. You should consider yourself extremely lucky if you ever get a chance to sit inside it.

5 – 1980 Delorean

The only model produced by the company, the 1980 Delorean got immense fame due to its role in the Hollywood movie ‘Back to the Future’. The car was introduced in the American market in 1981-82 and received a positive response from car lovers. The vehicle was also displayed at this year’s Classic Car Festival, with thousands of visitors from the Middle East coming to the show just to have a glimpse of it. With gull-wing doors and underbody made of fiberglass, the 1980 Delorean is definitely the show stealer.

The 1980 Delorean prototype was revealed in 1976 for the first time, and during production the manufacturer changed many features several times. It is believed that about nine thousand cars were made and some of them can be found on the roads of UAE. This beauty possesses stunning headlights as well as rear lights, comfortable steering that gives you better handling and plenty of  interior functions that enhance the overall level of mobility. Although it is more than three decades old, the Delorean matches the performance of any high-quality modern car.

The car is a genuine stunner, especially in red and black paint. The production of SS 100 was stopped in 1940 and after that, the XK120 was the first sports car by Jaguar. The 1954 Mercury is another wonderful car in the classic cars category, owned by few individuals in the UAE. It was displayed during the 2014 Emirates Classic Car Festival and earned a lot of fame. Although it is almost 60 years old, the car still runs efficiently, offering an adequate level of performance and driving pleasure. Introduced by the Mercury division of Ford Motor Company in the 1950s, the car achieved great success in the American and European markets due to its elegant looks and exceptional performance. For many years, the 1954 Mercury was considered to be among the most attractive cars in the world, complementing the body style with some of the most fascinating cars of the globe like Park Lane, Montclair and Marquis. The 1955 Ford Thunderbird Cabrio was the first generation car and became one of the greatest rivals of GM Corvette in its era, having used V8 technology before its opponents. It has retained its market value from the last many decades. Instead of focusing on sporty looks, the first generation of Ford Thunderbird concentrated on enhancing the passenger experience with an extremely comfortable interior and seats. An outstanding rear view vision is achieved in this vehicle through fiberglass, while the convertible model allows two passengers at a time. The car has the potential to achieve a maximum speed of 140 miles per hour, which is exceptional.
