Dubai Police’s Smart Petrol Cars to Feature 12 Cameras for Surveillance and Monitoring

Posted in: Local News

Dubai Police would soon be having smart police cars equipped with smart light bars featuring 12 cameras in total which would allow automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) and 360-degree video recording. This was announced on the first day of Gitex Technology Week at Dubai World Trade Centre. His Highness, Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai has inaugurated the event.

The cars under production would enable Dubai Police to monitor one lane in real time and transmit live video to Dubai Police’s control room to detect wanted vehicles and alert Police to take action on the spot.

There would be total 12 cameras which would function as:

  • 8 Cameras on the light bar would have the capability to detect number plates and flag the vehicles with history of defiance.
  • 4 Cameras would provide 360 degree view of the patrol car to notice violations and transmit the information to the control centre. Out of these four, there is one speeding camera to tape traffic violations on the go. This would enable Dubai Police to issue fines via sms in real time on the mobile phones of the violators. This will roughly take 5 to 10 minutes eliminating the need of printing the fine.

According to Russel Hammad, CEO of Zenith Security Systems, intelligent light bar is a pioneering world technology to be used first time by Dubai Police. This initiative by Dubai Police would certainly help it to curb traffic violations and control street crimes.
