I didn’t have the money to buy a brand new Land Cruiser or the Mitsubishi Pajero, but I adore tough SUVs. So, I came across the 2014 Jeep Compass which may not be powerful in comparison to its Japanese rivals, but my experience has been very well with it up till now. I absolutely loved the exterior styling of Jeep Compass as I gawked at it first time. The front fascia is aggressively designed giving it an attractive persona. The interior is comfortable too, but it doesn’t boast any fancy technological equipment. I could have installed the UConnect infotainment system but it was costing me extra. The 2.4L engine along with independent McPherson strut and multi-link suspension renders a robust performance, especially on the desert. The best part is that the 2014 Jeep Compass costed me only AED 99,900 and didn’t put a dent in my pocket.

Among all the SUVs in the Nissan showroom, the best I could find was the Qashqai. The Qashqai costed me only AED 77,500 and I take it on the affordable side considering its spacious interior and impressive exterior design. I don’t really admire the interior design, especially if compared to the likes of Kia Sportage and Honda CR-V. Nevertheless, my Qashqai renders a comfortable and decent drive. It carries a 2.0L 4 cylinder engine that is good for 142 horsepower. It also boasts some great safety features like ABS with EBD, six airbags and active head restraints. In short, it is highly recommended for SUV lovers.

The performance of my 2014 Nissan Xterra X is phenomenal. It is equipped with a spectacular 4.0L V6 engine along with special off-road tires that work perfectly for desert safari. Moreover, it extends shift on the fly drive selector which conveniently allows me to switch between the 4WD and 2WD. However, as much I love the performance, the exterior and interior designs are a disappointment. From the outside, the styling is pretty basic and simple, while the interior is outdated and feels like a cabin of an old car. The price tag of AED 107,400 was affordable for me, but I really wish Nissan updates the styling cues of the Xterra in the next model.

I owned the 2013 Nissan Armada before buying the 2014 model and the only complain I have with my new Armada is its exterior design, which is pretty much the same as the previous model. The cabin is spacious and large enough for 5 passengers. I don’t usually fold the third row seats as the boot space of 567 liters is enough for me, but when pulled down the cargo space becomes huge. The front dash design looks very luxurious due to the wooden trim. Reversing and parking the Armada are never a problem as it is fitted with safety sensors. It retains a 5.5L V8 engine that produces 320 horsepower but is not fuel efficient as it consumes around16L to cover a distance of 100 kilometers.

I bought the 2014 Nissan Murano for its practicality and spacious cabin, but I’m not really fond of its exterior design. The interior is exquisite and has a remarkable dashboard design with modern features like tire pressure monitoring system, blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning. Another con is its boot space which is only 895 liters and is not flexible enough to carry luggage of my whole family. Nevertheless, the performance offered by the 3.5L engine is pretty decent and comfortable.
